As tempting as it is to snuggle up in winter and watch endless episodes on Netflix, we are social creatures by nature and studies show how important it is for us to engage socially.
There are many benefits in connecting with others, such as reduced stress levels, better mental and physical health, and even longevity.
You don’t have to join a gym…walking is free and there’s nothing like being outside in the fresh air.
I still love going for walks and as soon as I finish writing this blog post I’m going to head out to get my ‘steps’ in for the day. May need my gloves and beanie tonight!
My family are drawn to the ocean regardless of the seasons (they are water babies) and there are several times during winter that we go for a drive to the beach. Because it makes us HAPPY! The sound of the waves crashing, seagulls fighting, children screaming in delight…..it doesn’t get much better than that.
There’s nothing like turning the music up loud at home, singing like no one is listening and dancing like no one is watching! (although I do think my dancing gives my dog anxiety). There is a lot of scientific research out there hailing the benefits of listening to music.
As soon as we hit winter here in Sydney I’m on a mission to bring colour into my house and into the lives of others. Winter can be a hard time for some people, especially for those who crave light and sunshine….
