My echinacea plant has just finished flowering. Before the petals withered, I managed to snap a few shots so I could create an artwork. I absolutely love the shape of the flower heads and the way the petals fall…they were practically begging to be painted.

For many years I have been viewing Lion Island from a distance.
I painted this watercolour ‘plein air’ a while ago …sitting on bench at West Head Lookout.
Little did I know back then, that one day I would actually be living in that landscape and watching the way the sun touched the Hawkesbury sandstone outcrops of Lion Island, this time from the other side.
There’s always a little spot on my morning walk where I have to stop and take photos. I’m in love with gum blossoms, even when they are incubating these divine flowers. But it’s like the flowers knew that we all needed a bit of cheering up after the past 3 months of catastrophic fires, extreme heat and drought here in Australia. These particular gums have just exploded into flower and the rainbow lorikeets are rejoicing!
